Day 144 Psalm 123 Psalm 123:1 < Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwell in the heavens. 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us. 3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. 4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. We see them everywhere. People who think they are better than us. People who look down their noses at us and will not consider anything we say or do because we are beneath them. Where do you turn when people treat you with contempt? For the psalmist there was only one place to turn. He lifted his eyes to heaven and supplicated God to have mercy on him because he felt the scorn of all those who thought they were better than he was. When people treat us with contempt, our eyes should look to God as well. It is he who will defend us against all those who treat us with contempt. As Christians, we should treat everyone as equals. Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (KJV) Before God we are all equal. None of us should treat someone as inferior, but we should help each other and take care of each other. By this we will send a message to those around us that we are Christians, when we treat everyone the same. Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment to love one another. John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (KJV) Now, when someone treats us with scorn and contempt as they did the psalmist, we can lift our eyes to heaven and know God will help us because we have love for each other. Let’s pray: Father, help me love everyone as your Son commanded me to. Help me not to show contempt to anyone, but to reach out and help as necessary. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. @jstory7 No they won't because they're not adding fuel to the fire and their fire will go out.
