#3 in my Favorite Kissing Songs series is the only song in the series without the word "kiss" in the title. I'm talking about Echo and the Bunnymen's 1987 song "Lips Like Sugar." Led by vocalist Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant, post-punk band Echo and the Bunnymen formed in Liverpool in 1978. The group's name was inspired by their former drum machine, Echo. Heavily influenced by The Doors, the Bunnymen are also known for their cover of "People are Strange" for the movie The Lost Boys. The band's 1987 self-titled album produced the single "Lips Like Sugar." The song was a minor hit, charting both in the UK (#36) and Ireland (#24.) And while it surprisingly didn't chart here in the States, it did receive extensive play on MTV's Sunday night alternative music show 120 Minutes. "Lips Like Sugar" has been covered by the likes of Seal and Coldplay. It remains one of my favorite kissing songs, one that brings back some fond memories.

Okay, I'mma need to hurry up an get my computer fixed because according to what I learned from looking this up, the "Lips Like Sugar" I heard around 2004/2005 performed by R&B singer Seal and Raggae singer Mikey Dread was a cover of this song. Now I'm curious as to what the original sounds like. So I need to hurry up and get my hard drive backed up and reformatted. Man, I had no idea! Dx

I like Seal's version. The original is an 80's alternative classic. The Bunnymen are a great band!

I liked Echo and the Bunnymen, and I liked that song particularly. I also loved "The Killilng Moon." That one is my favorite of theirs. Since you reminded me, I went over to youtube and I'm playing it now. This was myh kids' musical era, but I like some of everything. They were good.

"The Killing Moon" is my favorite as well. I've seen them three times. Great every time.

I thought it would make a good theme for a series.

An 80s classic for sure! Echo and the Bunnymen one of the greats! Strange it didn't chart here. It was a huge alternative radio hit and the band's signature song.

Believe it or not, All Music Guide shows no American chart history whatsoever.
