Connor Byrne reports the news on Wednesday the Houston Astros have designated for assignment outfielder Carlos Gomez.
Gomez had a batting average of .210 during the current baseball season which was one reason the Astros decided to release him on Wednesday.
Gomez will be replace in the Astros outfield by Jake Marisnick who is a great defensive outfielder even his batting skills are not something to write home about.
The Astros will replace Gomez on their 25 man active roster by promoting from their AAA minor league team the Fresno RoughRiders right handed pitcher Jandel Gustave.
Since Gomez is 30 years of age and become a free agent at the end of the current baseball season, it is possible that a team that is in contention will claim him off the waiver wire.

Gomez was a bust from the time Houston got him last year. He didn't live up to expectations in Milwaukee. He's still young and will get a job but his future may be as a bench guy not a starter.

That is what the sources said about Gomez when he went to the Astros who are probably red faced they got the short end of the trade with the Brewers.
