Mermaids (sirens) are very popular mythical creatures. Many sailors and explorers claimed to have seen mermaids in the seas and oceans and many people actually believed them. Usually, mermaids were associated with unfortunate events and bad luck on the water. They were considered omens of storms and potentially dangerous events.
There seems to be a cult surrounding mermaids and some people like to put on mermaid tails and swim around the swimming pools.
My favourite mermaid has to be Ariel from "The Little Mermaid".

I love The Little Mermaid. I actually believe that mermaids might exist. The ocean is a big place and a lot of it still hasn't been discovered yet and they keep pulling out more and more weird looking sea creatures every year. There is no telling what else is down there that we don't know about. I just believe that mermaids don't look like what everyone thinks they look like. They would be scaly all over and have more fish likely qualities and some human ones.
