Experimenting with Blender - Gemstones

Another image programme I'm messing about with at the moment is Blender, a 3D modelling programme. I just wish I knew how to use it to its potential (not sure I'd class it as particularly user-friendly). It might seem a bit strange to be trying a couple of things at the same time, but the Blender images are going to be for another role playing game supplement, and this one is almost fully written. So I'd really like 13 gemstone-ish images for it. This is an experimental blend, a ruby. It might not be totally obvious on this, but the ruby is partially transparent. Image: Me

that is a very good attempt.

Thanks! It proved a bit harder to get the resolution I wanted at the size I wanted. I had to work backwards, make the image about ten times the eventual size in Blender, open it with GIMP (because PS7 didn't manage the transparency), save it in GIMP, open the new file in Photoshop and then alter the size and pixels per inch resolution. Perhaps not quite as complicated as that sounds, but a bit annoying.

@skysnap Yes, there are some pretty decent Open Source programmes around.
