Favorite "Crazy" Songs #5 - "Drowning Crazy"

#5 in my Favorite "Crazy" Songs series belongs to Gene Loves Jezebel and their 1987 song "Drowning Crazy." Taking their name from Gene Vincent and his song "Jezebel," Welsh twin brothers Jay and Michael Aston formed Gene Loves Jezebel in 1980. Often categorized as a goth band, they aren't. The band's history is a mess, but in their prime, they were one of the 80's' great alternative bands. From their 1987 album The House of Dolls, "Drowning Crazy" was not a hit, nor was it released as a single. It is, however, an integral part of a strong record. Back to the band's history: the Aston brother's don't much care for each other, resulting in, for awhile, two separate Gene Loves Jezebel's recording and touring. I've seen all three versions, and met both Aston brother's. One was very nice and seemed genuinely pleased that we enjoyed the show. The other seemed bitter and bashed his brother every chance he got. Too bad, because together, they were great.
