.
In 2004, the Lord Mayor of our town here in the Western suburb of Melbourne, asked me to join the Fashion Awards in the Open Designer's Competition..
I was a little pressured as I am not a competitive person.. I thought if I had to compete in Fashion Awards, I would love to have plenty of time to prepare.. I was so busy with weddings in those days that I din't have time to make a special design for the competition.. So I said no.. But she told me that they need professional dressmakers in our area to join it because most of the competitors were from other suburbs.. And it also our way of supporting the student designers ..
So I asked one of my young lady client if she wanted to wear her debutant dress to the fashion show and we'll enter it as a wedding dress .. And she was so excited..
because she loved her deb dress so much that she wanted to wear it again .. That saved me time to make one.. All I did was create a really weird looking veil
.. I did not expect to win so I was shocked because to me it wasn't a spectacular looking wedding dress except for the weird looking veil which probably made it stood out.
.
And I am also very happy that the adjudicators were two of the most respected in the Australian Fashion industry whom sadly both are now deceased. I knew that they also looked at the quality of the workmanship, because they stood up and looked and scrutinised the beadings and the underlining of the dress. I wished I had time to really make a spectacular looking wedding dress if I knew that I would win.. I was not expecting it but I won it and I felt so proud..
I was forced to get up on the stage to walk the ramp with her and I was so nervous to face the 600 plus people in the audience.. I was so uncomfortable because I am the kind of person who does not want to be seen ..lol ..
But I won it and I felt proud..
Have you ever won anything that made you proud but wished you did a better job?..
( i hope the readers can see the photo I attached )

@epiffanie Back in the 70's, my then husband and I went to Las Vegas NV. We had fun but didn't win much at all. At the airport while waiting for our flight, I won $500 from a slot machine.

You are talented really; and so humble that you do not believe in your own creation. So nice.
