It's time for another song from my list of my ten favorite songs that have the word "walk" or some variation in the title. We have a lot of theme-based music discussions going on now, and it's quite a joy to get on myLot every days and see them!
#4: Walk Through the Bottomland - Lyle Lovett
I met Lyle Lovett in 1989. He's a very nice man. And yeah, he's really that ugly up close, too.
Lovett is someone who was victimized by the video era: when looks became emphasized at the expense of talent, his looks were discussed more than his music. And that's criminal, because this man is a phenomenal talent as a singer and songwriter.
His second album, Pontiac, showcased both sides of Lyle Lovett. He had humorous tunes (such as the album's closing song, "She's Hot to Go," where he discovers a woman he was watching from behind was "ugly from the front" then says, "this girl was so ugly..." And Francine Reed replies in a very sassy tone, "Well, you're ugly, too!") and incredible ballads such as this one.
"Walk Through the Bottomland" is about a woman from New Jersey who falls in love with a rodeo circuit-riding cowboy. Backed by Emmylou Harris on the chorus, Lovett sings pure country music as it was meant to be sung.
What a song.

You know it had me at steel guitar. What a pretty song. And you know that I am rooting for for a certain song for #1!
