Trout Pond - the cheating way to catch trout!

Our rental was on a trout stream in North Carolina. According to the comments from previous guests it was loaded with fish. One couple 'claimed' they caught 24 of them. Well, they must have caught the last 24 because my husband tried several times and didn't even see a fish, let alone catch one!
My husband wanted some trout to bring home and smoke. So, I went online in search of a trout pond. I knew we had seen a few on our ride to Maggie Valley. So off we went - I had to stop once for directions at a produce market, but not a big deal since I wanted to buy some NC peaches!
We found the trout farm, was told it was $4.50 a pound plus 50 each to gut. You only pay for what you catch. They provide the polls, worms, and the guys to net the fish. OK, so it's like shooting ducks in a fish bowl or whatever the saying is.
But it was an experience, a native american and two rednecks....
Anyone can fish a trout pond - it takes very little skill believe me. My husband caught 3 and then I tried and I caught the last and the biggest! Our bill for the 4 fish and 'gutting charges' was $29. Since they go for $9 or more in the stores, I guess we did OK.
It was fun but I think the most fun was listening to the three guys tell fish stories!
I will bet that in a few days the now frozen trout will be thawed and out in the smoker. (No, I won't eat them, I don't like smoked foods.)
So when life hands you an empty hook, find a trout farm to fill it!
Photo is mine - fish is mine.

I think that is a great way to purchase fish. You certainly are guaranteed it's fresh!

he's happy - he is putting them in the vac. sealer right now so they'll last - he will only smoke one at a time, they are pretty big.

That sounds like fun. I hadn't fished in years. When my husband and I first married, we went fishing in a creek not too far from where we lived at the time. It was part of an area where other people liked to fish. I caught a trout but my husband never caught one. I remember, we took it home and cooked it.
We need to get back into fishing again.

We - actually just me - fish in our pond all the time but our trout are only little guys, not worth the effort to cook or eat.

We are fisher people and when we moved to Canada we discovered trout farms, it took all the fun out of fishing. We did it once but decided we would go to a lake and have some real fun. I'm sure it is a good idea in the long run but we moved from Kansas where a pond or a small lake could give us hours of fun often with no fish at the end of the day but the day was a delightful one.

Since the creek had no fish and he wanted trout to smoke we did it this way. We have fun at home with our own pond - catch and release only!

@AbbyGreenhill when we started to fish on Lake Ontario we realized just how poluted the lake was so we don't fish at all anymore.

I asked if they have bones and they do, so that leaves me out - I'm afraid of fish bones, coked badly on a bone when I was a kid.
