Joe Frisaro reported the news the Miami Marlins will not have the services of their outfielder Giancarlo Stanton for the remainder of the 2016 baseball season due to a severe injury to his groin. Stanton injured his groin on Saturday night during a game versus the Chicago White Sox. A medical exam showed he has a Grade 3 strain that will require at least six weeks for him to recover. The Marlins would replace Stanton as their right fielder with either Ichiro Suzuki, Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna for the time being. The Marlins would also have the option of hiring a free agent or making a trade with another team in the Major Leagues to replace Stanton in their lineup. Stanton is one of the most valuable players on their team since he is one their power hitters. His absence from the lineup may put some doubts that the Marlins can make it to playoffs as a wild card entry.

Miami currently holds the second wild card spot and losing Stanton is a huge blow.

You are correct. The loss of their slugger will make their road to the playoffs much tougher.
