The condescending tone of the jury in talent casting shows

Why do candidates go to such a show just to be laughed at and talked down in a condescending way? Couldn't they make a casting show in which candidates are respected, no matter what level they have?

if you are talking about American Idol, that show is cancelled. The voice is not mean to contestants but they ignore the winners and runner ups post shows leading failure careers.
Are you talking about "got talent" shows?
