Busy Dragonflies

Vagrant Emperors

On my walk this morning there was a stroke of luck. I have been moaning about the lack of dragonflies, but today I spotted an Emperor dragonfly laying eggs on some waterweed in the canal. Only a few yards away was a pair mating, or flying 'in cop', as I've since learned the experts call it. I believe these two were Vagrant Emperor dragonflies. All this excitement was taking place by a narrow boat called Dragonfly. I wasn't carrying a real camera, so the picture is not all it could be. Still, quite happy and my wildlife spotting list is getting longer.

Well, it seems that dragonflies are definitely alive and well on your side of the pond! I haven't seen any around here in ages!

@Ronrybs They are so beautiful to watch. As a child, I was terrified of them. As an adult, they really mesmerize me!

I always loved to see dragon flies over the creek and rainbow trout leaping to catch 'other flies on my walks in the Black Hills o f S .Dak.
