Came to the mall earlier to renew a pawned item. I saw a woman carrying her child. I think she's about 3 weeks or a month old baby. A new born. The woman said the baby accidentally pulled off her earrings and she lost it. At the back of my mind I was like.. hey, seriously? that baby is to young to get ear piercing! but the jeweler just smiled and continued piercing her with a piercing gun.. the baby cried it broke my heart and i looked away. i looked at the mum and she seemed to be ashamed by bringing her baby there. people are looking at her and obviously felt pity for the baby..

There are mothers who's intention is clear and just for the sake of her baby, but sometimes they forget it could hurt much to their child. Other mother would say its better that they are pierced now and can't remember the pain rather than piercing them when old enough and can remember the pain.

@carexing25 I think the mother is still young. Many young mothers are full of excitement.

Reading your title shocked me hehehe! At first, I thought the baby was pierced with a knife or whatever. I was relieved after fully reading your discussion that only the ears of the baby were pierced.

I think they do it while very young because the skin is still soft and not that so much hurting . Unlike when we are older . Though , i would also pity the baby when she cried .

Some people like to pierce their childrens ears as early as possible. I really don't agree with it. It's just the parent's vanity making them do this, a baby doesn't know or care. My granddaughter is 9 and I still won't let her have hers pierced as my friend's 8 year old child ended up in hospital and lost some of her ear through infection. When she reaches her teens I will think about it.

I got my ear piercings when I was 4 or 5. It hurt, but I didn't cry. I don't know if it's a good idea to pierce the ears of babies, because they still have to grow. I wouldn't worry much about the pain, the baby won't remember it when she'll be a grown kid. I don't even think it was painful, children often cry because something scares them, it doesn't always have to be painful: for instance, when they get vaccinations. The needle is scary, but their buttock is thick enough to not cause much pain.
