Bee's Hive in Nest

Today might be the last day we have these litte Honey creatures fluttering around in our garden as the long awaited Bee-Keeper will come and set up a temporary hive to attract the bee's before he can swoop them off to a new Honey Farm! They are busy little creatures, and if you get close enough you hear their buzzing as they work. Some interesting facts that I myself learned today . . . Did you know: *Honey bees communicate with one another by dancing. More on their awesome sense of time, communication of distance and direction in "The Awesome Honeybee Dance" ~ I thought as much!!! *It takes one ounce of honey to fuel a bee's flight around the world. No wonder they are always so busy! *The honey bee has been around for millions of years and is the only insect that produces food eaten by man. *A colony of bees consists of 20,000-60,000 honeybees and one queen. Worker honey bees are female, live for about 6 weeks and do all the work. ~ Aint that a fact but our hubby's can be glad we live longer than that!! It came to mind that the friends on myLot are almost like the Honey bees . . . A hive of bees will fly 90,000 miles, the equivalent of three orbits around the earth to collect 1 kg of honey - So a Hive of myLotters do pretty much the same for a different sweet kind of reward! How has your day been so far - busy as a bee yet? my photo is of the birds nest that the Bee's have invaded and made their hive.

@Inlemay My kids who have the bees find several swarms every summer, they have empty stacks to give them a place to live and make more honey...They can buy a queen locally.

My son was home yesterday and I forgot to ask about his bees, he has several hives and collects the honey and shares it with all of us. I love the taste. I love the dancing communication too. The photo is me watching my son get ready to open one of his hives, I got to help... it was very busy...

@PainsOnSlate the bee-keeper arrived but his bin was too small to transport the bee's so he will be back tomorrow with a larger bin

I knew about the communication from dance, but did not know that the worker bees were female.

@Inlemay That figures because drones do not sting.

Yes essentially man eats the honey that is vomited from the mouths of bees! Although the polite way of saying it is regurgitated!

@inlemay - You are right-on. Bee critters are amazing. Nice photo of that big bee hive, too. I can hear the noise coming from it right now. -Gus-
