We're at #6 in my Favorite One-Off Bands series, which is basically about band's that only released one album (EP's don't count.) The #6 slot goes to Washington D.C.hardcore punk band Minor Threat.
Vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson formed Minor Threat in 1980, and, despite a short three-year existence, the band's shadow looms large; they are a major influence on the hardcore punk genre, as well as the straight edge (no booze, no drugs) community.
In addition to a couple EP's and compilation records, Minor Threat managed only one album during their time together, 1983's Out of Step. In keeping with the true punk spirit, the record (originally released as a 45) clocks in at around 21 minutes.
Out of Step habitually makes music magazine's "Best Album" style lists--it's that good. If you're a punk fan, it's a must-own.

It's hard to believe that Minor Threat only made one album, given all the Minor Threat t-shirts I used to see (well, still do in some places). I think that bodes well for another punk band that only released one album in terms of appearing on this list later....

I know. Three years isn't that long, but long enough to make more than one album, especially when you're releasing it on your own label.

The band still gets talked a a lot in punk circles. People do not think one album can make a band a legend, but I say it does if it influences so many other bands.

I never heard of them but their sound is pure classic punk.
