Favorite Band's Fronted by Women #8 - Lush

Yet another British band appearing in my Favorite Bands Fronted by Women series. And with good reason; they were very popular there in the early 90's, and I really dug them. In this case, I'm talking about Lush. Lush is an apt name for this band. Led by vocalist/guitarist Miki Berenyi and vocalist/guitarist Emma Anderson, Lush formed in 1987 in London (bassist Phil King and drummer Justin Welch, who has also played in Elastica, round out the lineup.) Widely considered one of the first shoegazer bands, the group combines that genre with dream-pop to create, well, a lush sound. Check out their fun cover of Abba's "Hey, Hey Helen" sometime. The video below is my favorite Lush tune, "De-Lux." It received extensive play on MTV's 120 Minutes, and hit #14 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It is the perfect shoegazer/dream-pop combination, a good indicator of the band's sound. And I will go to my grave insisting that my friend and I spoke to Miki Berenyi at the 1989 Rock Werchter Festival without realizing who she was at the time. Enjoy!
