Do You Own Any Diamonds?

You don't have to answer that? I was just wondering...
After I saw the movie, “Blood Diamonds” with Leonardo DiCaprio, I decided that I would NEVER purchase another diamond. Have you seen this movie?
Leonardo does a fabulous acting job in this movie. (He always does though.) I just couldn’t believe what was depicted in this movie about what is called "Conflict Diamonds."
I was appalled by the TRUTH behind diamond mining and methods of marketing used by the owners of these diamond mines to keep the price of diamonds at an all-time high.
Really, when you think about it, what is the TRUE value of a diamond?
The average person wouldn’t even know that a diamond was worth anything, if the marketing experts didn’t convince us that we NEED diamonds to make us “happy.”
And a diamond “in the rough” or an UNCUT diamond, presents itself as just another piece of rock. I wonder who figured out that this piece of rock could be cut in such a way that it would become valuable?
Certainly a question to ponder, don’t you think? With other gems, it’s the same question. Who decided that these gems are valuable? Why do we need them at all?

I have just one and it was purchased nearly 40 years ago. Now I am smarter... I will never buy another one.

@IreneVincent I am a sapphire lover. The only diamond I have is my engagement ring from years and years ago. That movie is certainly an eye opener. I don't need jewelry of any kind I just need my family.

I have some sapphire jewelry too. My daughter in law likes Tanzanite and has several items. Since I used to sell jewelry for almost 40 years, I have several nice pieces but like you said. We really don't need diamonds and gems to make us happy. I'm with you there.
