On August 20th, in the year 1866, U.S. President Andrew Johnson officially declared the US Civil War had ended.
On August 20th, in the year 1953, the Soviet Union admitted that it had tested a hydrogen bomb.
On August 20th, in the year 1986, post office employee Patrick Henry Sherrill went on a rampage at his place of work in Edmond, Oklahoma. He shot 14 fellow workers to death.
On August 20th, in the year 2005, new airport security systems debut in Canada after three years of trials.

Some interesting facts there. History is amazing. And looking back on it makes you wonder what people were thinking. The one sad thing I find about history is that even to this day, it seems humans have not yet learned from their mistakes.

The only one of these that I have ever heard of is President Johnson declaring the US Civil War ended. What good news that had to have been in 1866!
