When Was the Last Time You Hung Clothes On a Clothes-line?

I remember as a kid going through any neighborhood one would see clothes-lines in almost every backyard. And many of them would be filled with clothes hanging out to dry in the breeze. Nowadays it is extremely rare to see such things. Do you have a clothes-line in your yard that you use? Do you prefer to wear clothes that have been dried by nature or dried by machine? Do you think about your carbon footprint when you dry clothes? Do you consider the sight of clothes hanging outside to be an eyesore? (There are actually some communities that forbid it.) When was the last time you hung clothes out on a clothes-line to dry?

The last time I hung clothes on a line outside, it was back in 2003. I regretted it, because of all the pollen that got on my clothes. I am asthmatic and am allergic to pollen. I spent most of my days having difficulty breathing. I never have gone back to using a clothesline again. In 2006 though, when we again didn't have a dyer, I use to hang my just washed clothes inside the house on any place I could find. On nails within the walls, over the furniture, and even on our pipes to our hot water tank. In the winter, it took hours to dry them. Today, we have a dryer.

For you it must be truly wonderful to have a dryer. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of years ago, I did that , when my dryer broke. After I called the dryer repair man and he fixed it, I was back to using the dryer.

Never have. I just use my washer and dryer that I have always had weather it be my own or when I lived with my parents.

It would be close to ten years ago now. I live in an apartment so I use the dryer. I use to love drying the bedding on the line. It would smell so good when you crawled into bed. You'd sleep so good. Most houses here have clotheslines.

That's easy to answer - it was yesterday.
I find it unbelievable that the sight of clothes on a line is considered an eyesore in some places (I mean I know it is banned, but it is just so ridiculous). I mean in many cases the clothes look better on the line than on the owner, yet they are not banned from wearing them! And yes here we are facing the problems of global warming yet some people would rather die as long as it was in a pretty neighbourhood.

I hang clothes on a line several times a week. No room for a tumble dryer and I'm not that keen on them anyway. Yes, clothes on a line can be an eyesore but I try not to leave them out for longer than necessary. I also always try to make the line look a little better by always using coloured pegs that match the clothes (yes, I know that sounds a bit obsessive and not very masculine but it's what I do!) My girlfriend thinks it's hilarious!

A number of years ago when the apartment building where I lived had a clothesline.
