USA ruled the Olympics, but what was the deal with the British?!

The Olympic Games in Rio are over, and the final image at the medal standings is not surprising - USA smashed all the others winning 121 medals (46 golds)!
But, what I can't understand is how come Great Britain came through to the second place?
This are their best Olympics so far in terms of total medals, better even than their own Games in London in 2012. I guess the generation they were preparing for those games still has its full strength, so they became someone to beat at the Olympics.
On the other hand Russia, and especially China disappointed a lot coming short with 20 medals compared to the previous Games. While Russia has an excuse with all the suspensions due to doping, Chinese lost the momentum they had in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
I guess that is what the British should expect in four years, too.

You are right, and I don't have issues with that, I just stated it. Even though USA is not almighty, and for example, got beaten by China at the Games in 2008.
But Great Britain this time surpassed the expectations. That's the surprise.

Well, if they have prepared long and hard enough for all those past years, then they deserve what they have. Any country, who give priority to winning medals will surely arrive at their vision or goals in any sporting event. I am not surprised. May be in the next Olympics, another country will emerge as the next to the United States. Anything can happen in sports. May the players who will be competing in these events keep on..
