Jason Beck reports the news the Detroit Tigers have activated from the 15 day disabled list outfielder Cameron Maybin before the start of the baseball game versus the Boston Red Sox.
Maybin had been on the disabled list since August 9 which was retroactive to August 4 due to a sprain of his left thumb.
To make room for Maybin on the Tigers 25 man roster, the Tigers demoted shortstop Dixon Machado to their AAA minor league team the Toledo Mud Hens.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is happy to see his outfielder back in the starting lineup sooner than he expected since it would have been at least one week to go before Maybin would have fully healed from his thumb injury.
The Tigers are currently in second place in the American League Central Division standings seven games behind the division leaders the Cleveland Indians as of baseball games on Sunday.

I didn't know Ausmus is the Tigers manager. I liked him when he played for the Rockies.

Ausmus succeed Jim Leyland as the Tigers manager a few years ago when Leyland retired.

Good news for the Tigers as Maybin will assist their push for a wildcard spot.
