Fable - The Wealthy Bug Once upon a time, in a warm mound of composting manure, there lived a bug that was destined for things other than fortune. His name was BeetleBoy. BeetleBoy was named after his grandfather, a large, well-proportioned beetle of the “old school.” It is noteworthy that Grandpa Bug's old school was really not a school at all, but rather a bug trysting place beneath a rotting stick of wood, fallen into the poop pile from a nearby shed. Many a bug had its start right there, including BeetleBoy. Birth came to BeetleBoy left all alone under a lump of warm manure. He looked around as he crawled from the egg shell. What he saw gladdened his little heart – piles and piles of guanificent poop. “Well,” thought BeetleBoy, “I'll not lack for nourishment. My forebeetles must have been truly bugs of great wealth and providence.” Then, as BeetleBoy stretched his six legs and wandered about, exploring things, he saw some little girl bugs who, like him, were exploring the neighborhood. They spotted BeetleBoy, too, and gathered around. As anyone might expect, BeetleBoy was both flattered and excited by this attention. That is normal for little boy bugs when first they meet up with little girl bugs. Thought BeetleBoy, “I am probably the luckiest little boy bug in the entire poopy universe.” That was years and years ago. Now, as BeetleBoy looks around as his manure pile shrinks in size due to the millions of BeetleBoy's little children-bugs gobbling away, BeetleBoy leans back against a smelly lump of stuff and laments, “I wish that I had not been so curious about those little girl bugs I met up with as a young boy bug. Look at what those kids are doing to my inheritance. Soon, we'll be out of manure and have nothing left but the smell.” Moral: Manure is good for fertilizing but fertilizing is not very good for manure * * * * * * * * * * Image source: My Broderbund image DVD * * * * * * * * * * Note: Another MyLotter recently expressed an interest in writing "fables."

@responsiveme - Friend ARM - It is even greater than ordinary because it was inspired by a most lowly dung beetle. -Gus-

I was wondering what you would come up with as the 'moral'. I wasn't disappointed.

@jaboUK - Ms Janet - Well, I was also wondering, and wondering, and wondering - so I messed up and called it a "motto." (Sort of like the Boy Scouts with their motto - "Do a good turn daily." (That is what gave such a nice warm and filling home to my little BeetleBoy. - that daily good deed stuff...)

@CinnamonGrl - Ms Sue - To be sure. BeetleBoy loved it, too. I kinda liked his little story, come to think of it. -Gus-
