"Socking" it To You With a Hint

Since no one has guessed the movie behind my socks I thought it might be time for a hint. I came up with the best one I could think of without giving too much away but it may help or not. The hint is : mermaid, angel, grasshopper. How do they connect? Well, that's up to you to find out!
