Favorite Bands Fronted by Women #2 - Pretenders

"Light at the end of the tunnel" reference. #2 in my Favorite Bands fronted by Women series belongs to Pretenders. Ohio-born and raised vocalist/guitarist Chrissie Hynde formed the Pretenders in England in 1978. Hynde has been the group's only constant, with a multitude of lineup changes since the drug-related deaths of original members James Honeyman- Scott (guitar) and bassist Pete Farndon. Despite those setbacks, Hynde soldiered on, and the Pretenders are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band's 1979 self-titled debut is a Platinum album that debuted at #1 in the UK and reached #9 on the Billboard 200. The album's 3rd single, "Brass in Pocket," is what broke the band, landing at #14 on that magazine's Hot 100 chart, and reaching #1 in the UK. According to Wikipedia, Hynde didn't like the song and didn't want it released. Luckily, she relented, because it's the reason I developed a lifelong love of the band. Some of my most memorable concert experiences have happened at Pretenders shows. Enjoy the official video for "Brass in Pocket:"

Ooh, yeah. Saw them in 1984 in Hawaii. Martin Chambers was at the Willie concert the night before.

That would have been nice to see them there. Other than the first time, I've always seen them in Denver. Did see them at Red Rocks, though.

One of the greatest of greatest bands. Brass in Pocket is a favorite among favorites. Hyde has a great voice. So, #1 awaits. Annie Lennox or Siousxie or ?
