I was born in West Virginia and lived there until I got married. This feud was an ongoing, sometimes violent, feud between families in Kentucky and West Virginia.
There are lots of jokes that are directed at those of us who are from West Virginia. I’m sure you’ve probably heard of plenty of them. Like “one of our legs is shorter than the other one” from walking on the hillsides and mountains. Have you ever heard that one?
I love West Virginia. It’s a beautiful state despite the fact that some of the hills have been flattened from strip mining. Much of West Virginia is undermined and many creeks and rivers were polluted with bad water coming out of the mines.
In recent years, some of these situations have been corrected and further damage has been controlled.
Have you ever visited West Virginia?

Did you watch the Hatfields & McCoys TV miniseries with Kevin Costner a few years ago?

No, I didn't. I would like to see that. I wonder if I could find it somewhere on Netflix or On Demand?

@IreneVincent It was a cable series I believe on History Channel. It's on DVD.

Yes, coal mining has caused lots of pollution, especially involving creeks and rivers. I didn't know there was a documentary about the feud, but it makes sense that someone would make a documentary about it. I'm wondering if they got all the facts straight. I would love to see the documentary.

Yes, it is. Lots of "TALL TALES" have been told about the feud, so NOW it has become quite a legend and it's difficult to separate fact from fiction.
