Remember these 80's Gems? #8 - "Standing on the Top"

We head over to the R&B side of things for #8 in my Remember these 80's Gems? series, with The Temptations' 1982 single "Standing on the Top." The Temptations are a legendary vocal group founded in Detroit in 1960, and despite numerous lineup changes over the years (Otis Williams is the only original living member left,) is still going strong. Famous for hits such as "My Girl," The Temptations are three-time Grammy winners and are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the early 1980's, The Temptations made a comeback of sorts by performing backup vocals on Rick James' smash hit "Superfreak." In 1982, James returned the favor, writing, producing and appearing on the group's single "Standing on the Top." The song performed modestly, reaching #66 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #63 in the UK. It is, however, a fun slab of Rick James' brand of 80's funk, as performed by one of the all-time great vocal groups. As I said, fun:
