Have You Ever Visited The Alamo, in San Antonio, Texas?

One of my favorite trips was to San Antonio, Texas. My brother was stationed at Fort Sam Houston and my mother and I flew down for a visit. He and his wife took the week off to show us around the city. I loved the “River Walk.” We also visited the Oriental Gardens. And then of course, no trip to San Antonio would be complete without visiting The Alamo. Like most people, I was surprised at how small the Alamo really is. I had in my mind that it was a much larger place. We went inside and walked around and it felt strange to know what a HUGE piece of history happened there. The brochure, as I recall, said that 180 men, including Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie died there. Only one woman, one baby and one slave survived. It also said that there were 3000 Mexican troops who attacked the Alamo. I guess they put up a brave fight, but against those odds, were not able to prevail. I’ve never been back to San Antonio, but I’m glad I got to visit at least one time. Have you ever been there?

I have and for me, once I got past the horrible tourist crap outside, inside the Alamo was an almost religious experience. Very emotional. We had already visited San Jacinto so we knew what was coming after the Alamo.

I visited the Alamo as a child and driven by as an adult. Like many things that seem large in mind, the Alamo is smaller in reality.

Yes, the Alamo is much smaller than I thought it would be.

No, I have never been in Texas. I would go now, because I have several online buddies who live there now. And I guess as long as I was there, I'd want to visit the Alamo. I always pictured it as big, too. Interesting that it's not a big place, hmm. Thanks for sharing your experience and a little history.
