A Big Little Dog

I've had dogs all of my life. When I was a kid we had German Shepherds. Then after I was grown I had an assortment of Labs, Australian Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and various mutts, most of them medium to large sized.
Then about 15 years ago my daughter's friend was moving to a place where he couldn't take his dog. It was a black and tan, silver dapple, miniature dachshund. She begged to be allowed to bring the dog home, and I let her. My daughter was busy with school and friends, usually the dog was home with me.
Soon it became clear that Lindsey was my dog. What amazed me about her was what a huge personality she had in that little eleven pound body. She soon let all the other dogs know who was boss. Lindsey made a convert out of me. I love little dogs, they can sit on the couch and snuggle with you, it's much easier to take them along in the car.
I still have a big dog that I love, and I now have several more dachshunds. My sweet little girl was six years old when I got her, she died suddenly at the age of eleven. She has been gone longer than I had her, but I miss her to this day. Why is it that some of them just get under your skin like that?

Aw that's very sad. It's hard to lose pets even though you know you're going to live longer. Some are more part of the family than others, I think. I know how that goes.

We all know we will outlive our pets but that is how it is ordained. I understand your feelings. We have had dogs and have lost them to old age.

I don't know. I've loved every pet I've ever had, but became attached to some more than others.
