We're in Canada for this series, tracking my Favorite Canadian Acts. We are at #9, Toronto's Death from Above 1979.
Death from Above 1979 is comprised of vocalist/drummer/percussionist Sebastien Grainger and bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Jesse F. Keeler. They formed in 2001, and after a lengthy hiatus, are still going strong
The duo certainly has a sense of humor. According to Wikipedia, although they met at a Sonic Youth concert, they've claimed to have met in prison, on a pirate ship, and in a gay bar. They also claimed that they once lived in a mortuary.
Their 2004 debut, You're a Woman, I'm a Machine, was a Gold record in Canada, and (this is important,) contains no guitars. This band rocks, without the use of those things.
Death from Above 1979 recently played Denver. I only know this because a friend put up on her Facebook that she was there. I'm still green with envy.

@teamfreak16 -- you'd better be "makin' it work" then without them!

From Canadian band Doug & The Slugs from 1982, sadly no longer with us. (Thank you for the correction marehtseira)

Yeah, they certainly aren't a mainstream band.

Totally unfamiliar with this band. You have a knack for the non-mainstream.
