Alex Kolodziej reports the news the San Francisco Giants have placed their right handed starting pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15 day disabled list which is retroactive to August 21 due to a lower back strain. Peavy will be replaced on the Giants 25 man active roster by right handed pitcher Albert Suarez. Suarez will replace Peavy as the starting pitcher of the Giants on Saturday when the Giants host the Atlanta Braves at their home stadium A T & T Park. Suarez had been pitching for the Sacramento River Cats which is the AAA minor league team of the Giants when he received the news of his promotion. Suarez will be useful for the Giants as both a spot starter and relief pitcher for the Giants for the remainder of the current baseball season.

Peavy had not been pitching well this season but he is still needed by the Giants.
