Right, it's a fine morning, sun shining brightly from an azure sky, picnic is packed - we're off! The Giant's Causeway beckoned today - a popular spot, doubtless one focus of those visiting the Oul' Lammas Fair in neighbouring Ballycastle this weekend. We went, we parked in the free park'n'ride in nearby Bushmills (of the whiskey fame), and a short bus-trip later, we took a leisurely dander around these basalt rocks (photo above) admiring the ocean views and the glorious columns and stacks all the way up to the Giant's Organ. The Visitor Centre was bustling, but not too much that we could not enjoy the story of the giant, Finn McCool, projected on one wall - the video below tells this myth, if you are interested. One small fly in the ointment was the sight, and sound, of dozens of people wandering around with their ears, and attention, glued to the provided audio commentary devices. It looked like an open-air international smartphone salesman's convention...
A 2.5minute film telling the mythical story behind the Giants Causeway. The Pond team have worked from storyboarding right through to completion of this short film…

I'm afraid I lost patience with the video, it kept stopping and starting, but mostly stopping. Anyway I'm pleased you had a good day.

Oh, sorry about the video - I could only find short clips of it on YouTube, which is why I opted for the Vimeo offering... I've found a YouTube version, it is a little distorted (moon looks like an egg!) but it should not stutter quite as much, I hope. And the photo on my post is labelled too :)

@pgntwo - Friend PGN - The folks who gave the "SmartPhone" its common name were those who have poor powers of thought and observation. I hate to admit my laughing at a video of a young lady who paid rapt attention to her "smartphone" until the moment she tumbled into a fish pond in the center of a shopping mall. Your description fits such scenes well. -Gus-

Falling butt over appetite whilst concentrating on your phone, a sad indictment of our times. Alas.

Ah, Ballycastle. Home of my first true love. When I was with him at uni I used to imagine it as some sweet little village, but I'm guessing it isn't. Little, I mean. I'm sure it's sweet. :)

Never made it that far, but passed through Lisnagunogue in the blink of an eye, and Ballintoy in two shakes of a lamb's tail... Then got sidetracked into a picnic stop at Portaveeny, overlooking the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge :). All places with which your Uni true-love will doubtless have regaled you, as they are on the road between Bushmills and Ballycastle.

They need their smartphones to take selfies with that beautiful blue ocean in the background...

The bugbear was the " Innovative pocket size audio guide in a variety of languages " ... Very distracting!
Visitor information and audio guides of the Giant's Causeway are available to visitors in ten languages other than English
