Do You Have Solar Panels On Your Home?

I've always fantasized about how wonderful it would be to never again send my hard-earned money to the electric company month after month after month. Unfortunately, I am currently living in an apartment and solar panels are not an option for me right now. I have never seen a single solar panel on any roof in my little town. I find that rather perplexing. Back when I lived in Colorado or California or New Mexico I always saw many homes with solar panels on the roofs. But not a single one here (and we have abundant sunshine). I hope to have my own house someday soon and when I do I will seriously look into solar panels. While it will certainly feel good to know that I'll be helping to combat climate change, my primary motivation would be to ween myself from a dependency on the corporate utilities. If I were to add up all the money I've spent on electric bills in my life it's probably enough to buy a house. Do you have solar panels on your rooftop? If so, do you feel the investment was worth it? Does your town or city have a lot of solar panels? How do you feel about solar energy? How do you feel about paying your electric bill every month?

I have 3 of them! I endured an undelicious cheap vegan diet of sweet potatoes and Jicama for few years so I can save cash from my salary and I will be able to afford them. The lack of electric bills made me able to afford a more expensive internet connection.

Wow, so are you able to power your entire home with just 3 panels? I was under the impression that one needed to cover virtually their entire roof. Of course, solar panels are getting better and more efficient (and slightly cheaper) with each passing year. Now you've got me thinking about sweet potatoes and jicama. I could stand to start saving money for panels now.

@MKAlubs I am a single Bachelor so the energy I have is enough for me. Yes 3 large panels are enough to give me all the free energy. I am just sick of the ever increasing electric bills and I hate blackouts. I remember enduring 14 days Blackout because of a storm and that makes me swear I will have my own electricity.

@CaptAlbertWhisker - Thanks for bringing up blackouts. I hadn't thought of that. We've only had one blackout in the 6 years I've been living here but it lasted for almost 2 full days--long enough for much of the food in my freezer to thaw out.

i've been tryin' to talk the hubs 'nto solar/wind power here fer years. he's always an 'xcuse 's to why such aint a good idea. i've yet to see either'n buildings'n town, very few'n houses 's well. but, there's many ranchers/farmers who've given rights to those big turbines to be'n their property...jest coz they get a steady paycheck fer such. 'tis ruined the landscape somethin' awful 'n the energy generated aint used locally, but sent to texas....

What freaks me out about those wind turbines is how many birds fly into them and are chopped up.

We do not have solar panels on our own home, but I have seen a few popping up in our city.

I would LOVE to have my home powered by solar panels....but it doesn't seem to have reached my city yet. Weirdly, Indian villages now are adapting to solar panels and we in the city haven't even started.

Well that is certainly interesting. I guess every unique location responds differently.
