It's amazing how songs can find new life when they're done years, or even decades, after they were originally recorded. With the change in tastes in music the original can get lost in the shuffle or completely forgotten. Then, on the other hand, the cover can be so big that a lot of people simply don't even realize it is a cover. The latter case may be what happened with today's song. #6: Love Hurts I remember Casey Kasem playing this song and telling everyone that the band with the huge hit version, Nazareth, took their name from the opening line from "The Weight" by the Band ("I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead"). And that gritty, hard rock vocal by lead singer Dan McCafferty made it an international success, easily Nazareth's biggest hit. A few people who are devotees of the legendary Gram Parsons would say, "Yeah, they covered a Gram song." Gram Parsons and his girlfriend, Emmylou Harris, did the song, which appeared on the 1973 Grievous Angel album. Keep going. That was a cover, too. Back in 1960, Boudleaux Bryant, half of the legendary husband-and-wife songwriting duo of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant (who wrote things as diverse as "Bye Bye Love" and "Rocky Top") wrote the song. Their favorite recording act at the time, the Everly Brothers (who did several of their songs, including "All I Have to Do Is Dream," "Problems," "Bird Dog," and the aforementioned "Bye Bye Love"), recorded the song. It appeared on their album A Date With the Everly Brothers. From there, it seems like everybody has recorded it: the Wikipedia page lists cover versions by Roy Orbison (the first person to cover it), Gram, Nazareth, Triumph, Cher, Jim Capaldi (who also had a big hit with it), Joan Jett, and Heart...among others. But it all goes back to Phil and Don. Love Hurts Written by Boudleaux Bryant Originally recorded by the Everly Brothers, 1960 Semi-famously covered by Gram Parsons, 1973 Famously covered by Nazareth, 1975 Also famously covered by Jim Capaldi, 1975 The Everley Brothers' origina; version:
"Love Hurts" es una canción de Boudleaux Bryant - grabada primeramente por The Everly Brothers y versionada (entre otros) por Nazareth y Cher. Love hurts, lo...

Actually it doesn't surprise me it is a cover upon reflection. The title sounds like a standard. Great history you provided.

Triumph did this? I love Triumph and I don't remember it. Again, you got me. I always just assumed it was a Nazareth song.

@FourWalls - I like it, but I still prefer Nazareth, though.
