Are You a Giver or a Taker?

Do you prefer to receive than to give? Most of us like to have it both ways. We appreciate receiving a gift or a pat on the back. We appreciate when someone remembers you in a special way. We also enjoy giving to people who are less fortunate. We like to see the smile of a child when they open up a present. However, some people like to go primarily one way or the other. What kind of person are you?

It is more blessed to give so I do make it a point to give and I see blessings coming back to me in many different ways..

I try to be a giver all the way. But I have received too and am grateful for the blessings. One is always touched by the generosity of others - siva

I can say that I much of a giver. I give without asking for anything in return. I also appreciate if friends give me something. Anyway, either way. I am grateful.

I think a person should be a balance of both. Too much of being one or the other would be bad for someone. For example, if a person gives too much, he would forget to take care of himself which somehow lessens his ability to continue giving. If a person receives too much, there would ne a tendency for him to be a spoiled brat in the future. I think I am a balance of both but a little bit leaning to being a giver.

Yes you have it right and the reason I say that is because I see so many on the internet say things like the actual liking of gift-giving is selfish and the giver gets so much pleasure from giving whether they receive or not and so on then they sound angry about that fact. The thing is they don't seem to understand that the giver does want something back and that is the appreciation and to receive decent treatment in general. It's sad that you have to give material things in order to receive those kinds abstractions. It's not a bad type of selfish. They want to be Able to give and get. The givers want them to get off their back.

Cold. I really do not give or am a recipient.
