Alex Kolodziej reports the news on Saturday the San Francisco Giants have purchased the contract from their AA minor league branch the Richmond Flying Squirrels right handed relief pitcher Joe Nathan. Nathan started the 2016 baseball season signing a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on May 17, 2016. Nathan made his 2016 debut with the Cubs on July 24, 2016 pitching in three relief appearances before he was designated for assignment on August 6. The Giants signed Nathan to minor league contract on August 16. Nathan had Tommy John surgery during the 2015 Major League Baseball season after he pitched one game in relief for the Detroit Tigers to repair an injury to his right elbow. Nathan will be a very important player on the Giants relief pitching team for the remainder of the current baseball season.
