Joseph Nocco reports the news on Monday the Detroit Tigers have activated from the 15 day disabled list right handed starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey.
Pelfrey had been placed on the 15 day disabled list on August 2 with a strain on his lower back.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus told Pelfrey he will be working as a relief pitcher instead of his role as a starting pitcher for the American League Central Division team.
Pelfrey has pitched 11 years in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers since he made his debut in the Major Leagues in 2006 with the Mets.
Pelfrey during the 2016 baseball season has a pitching record of four wins and nine losses with an earned run average of 4.76 which made the decision by the Tigers management to demote him to relief pitching work since the starting pitching staff of the Tigers which includes Justin Verlander, Michael Fulmer, Daniel Norris and Anibal Sanchez is good enough for the Tigers who are currently in contention to make a playoff run this year easy to keep him off of the starting pitching rotation at this time.

Having a veteran like Pelfrey helps the Tigers.
