Do You Know Anyone That Sucks Their Thumb?

When I was quite young, I never got into sucking my thumb. I was a finger nail biter though. I've know a child or two that have sucked their thumb. For some children, it provides comfort or a sense of calmness. For others, it may be a sign of nervousness and anxiety. What is your thought on the matter?

My son sucked his thumb from the time I brought him home from the hospital. As he got a little older, he would only suck his thumb when we was going to sleep. Thankfully he did outgrow it.

Fortunately, most babies and toddlers outgrow it.

@zebra2222 It wasn't until he started school that he gradually stopped. I think he was more conscious of it and didn't give in to it.

There is an orphaned boy in our foster family. He comes from a difficult and unhappy background. He sucked his thumb for months. It showed his mental state but now he is more confident.

I never allow my daughters to thumb suck when they were kids for I know there are so many disadvantages in doing so. It's also unhealthy. My niece is doing it since she was a child. Now she is married and sometimes she still thumb suck. Its a bad habit My eldest daughter tried to bite her fingernails but I told her not to do it.
