Day 2
Proverbs 1:8-19
Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of the owners thereof.
Can you count how many times your parents told you not to hang around with disreputable people while you were growing up? They wanted the best for you, so they admonished you as often as you walked out the door to have ‘fun’ with your friends.
Solomon, as a wise father, also told his son not to be seen with people who would lure him to a destructive lifestyle. He told his son exactly how they would entice him to destructive ways. He too wanted what was best for his son. He told him to listen to his instruction and not forsake the law of his mother.
I find it interesting that though the man is the head of the home, it is the woman who is the law of the household. Consider it was the man who went to work or war and it was the mother who raised the children. She was the one who laid down the rules of the household, and I’m sure you’ll find she is still the one who lays down the rules of the household.
As Christians, our head is Jesus Christ, we represent the church, the bride of Christ. God gave us his laws for us to obey, and we in turn pass on those laws to our children. We are not to forsake the law given to us, but we are to be obedient to God’s Word and treat it as law.
Satan is the enticer who would try to talk us into departing from the law given to us. However, we are to stand our ground and turn away from Satan’s enticing destructive ways. When we do, he will flee from us.
Don’t let Satan cast his net over you, but turn his wicked ways back on him, and trust God to keep you safe from all his schemes.
Let’s pray: Father, help me ward off Satan’s evil schemes with the power of your Word. Let your law sink deep into my soul so Satan will not come near me, but must flee anytime he sees me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

If only people would take time out to read Solomon's book of Proverbs all the guidelines for a long, happy and prosperous life are there but also includes the lures of amassing too much, the vainess of everything temporary if it is not in accordance with the will of the Lord.
