Marc Topkin reports the news on Thursday the Tampa Bay Rays have signed former San Diego Padres shortstop Alexei Ramirez. Ramirez was released by the Padres four days ago. Ramirez will replace shortstop Matt Duffy who will likely have surgery to repair an Achilles heel injury that will sideline him for the rest of the 2016 baseball season. Ramirez has played in the Major Leagues with the Chicago White Sox from 2008-2015 before he signed a one year, $4.4 million dollar contract with the San Diego Padres before the start of the 2016 baseball season. The details of his contract were not released by the Rays management to the public but it certain that Ramirez will be offered a minimum salary since he will have playing time for the remainder of the 2016 baseball season as the shortstop of the Rays before he becomes a free agent when the current baseball season ends.

@Daljinder I could not catch a fly ball to save my life and I had a fear of being hit by a baseball thrown by any pitcher so I took up bowling which is now my favorite sport.
