Joe Frisaro reports the news the Miami Marlins have plans to place on the shelf right handed starting pitcher Jose Fernandez if the team is eliminated from playoff contention. Fernandez has 160 1/3 innings pitched during the 2016 baseball season in 26 starts. Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly has set a limit of 180 innings for Fernandez this baseball season. Fernandez will make his next start on Friday at Marlins Park when the Marlins will be hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers who will send to the pitching mound left handed starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The Marlins are currently in fifth place to make it as a wild card entry with a record of 69 wins and 71 losses. It makes sense for the Marlins to have Fernandez on the shelf if they are eliminated to make the playoffs since they do not want to lose the services of their ace pitcher for the near future.
