Flavoid looked at the children on Bus32 and made an announcement. "As I have said before, you are going to Abstract Void. It will take approximately 10 hours to get there. I am going to put you into Sleep Tone. With the snap of his fingers, "The children fell instantly to sleep."
The Bus crossed through bumpy terrain. It passed by the Death Zone. At one point, it touched the boundaries of Void 2, the Desert Oasis. Finally, it reached its destination, Abstract Void. Flavoid snapped his fingers again and instantly the children became alert.
"What happened to us?" asked James.
"I felt really weird," said Lucy.
"You were put into Sleep Tone. I find it is easier for children to manage on long trips. Anyway, you are now at Abstract Void. This is Void 5. Be aware that this is perhaps the most unusual void that you shall ever encounter. Now everyone off the bus."
The 19 children slowly left the bus. Instantly they were struck by blinding colors cascading off a large, rectangular object coming out of the ground. "Don't be alarmed," said Flavoid. "This is called the Rectangle of Destiny. You may touch it. You'll find that it is quite smooth and warm."
Ron reached out to touch the object. "Wow, this is so cool. I've never felt anything like this before."
"Let me see," said George as he pushed by Max. "This is stupid. This whole trip through these voids is stupid. Hey Flavoid, what are you going to turn me into this time?"
"Don't tempt me," warned Flavoid. "Now step away from the Rectangle of Destiny. Do you see something different?"
"Oh my," said Beth. "The buildings are all different. There is an Oval shaped, blue structure. Oh, a red circle building with Octagon windows. This is so bizarre."
"Yes, everything about this void is strange. Let's move on."
The children walked down streets that turned from pavement, to rubble, to grass, to dirt in a matter of minutes. They came across homes that slanted to the left and homes that slanted to the right. They saw doors where windows were meant to be. Plants were growing at different angles. "What kind of flower is this?" asked Peter.
"That is called the Bri Flower. Notice how the leaves change colors. It also twists and turns when the sun goes down."
"I feel like my head is spinning," said Wally. "I can only imagine what the food taste like."
"Here," said Flavoid. "I have 19 chewables in my hand. Each one of you take one. The chewables are food for your walk. Also, they provide you with all the fluids that you will need for now."
"This is very tasty," said James. "Beats eating leftovers."
"We are now going to go into this large oval building that is called "Misfits World." You will need to wear special earplugs inside. The sound can be deafening."
The children put on their earplugs. Immediately, George was lifted into the air and landed on a Parkka Bench. "What the..."
"George, for some reason the Parkka Bench wanted to get to know you. Be kind to it. You don't want to make the Parkka Bench angry."
"This is crazy," shouted George. "Okay Parkka, my name is George. I'm 9 years old and I have an attitude."
"Yes, I know," said the Parkka Bench. "I shall rearrange your thought process."
"Hey, no one messes with my brain," said George. "I'm getting off of you."
"I'm afraid that is not possible," said the Parkka Bench. "I must complete my task."
George screamed as loudly as he could. The Parkka Bench felt instant pain from the screams and released George.
"Ha, I knew that I could get off that stupid bench."
Flavoid decided not to change George, but he was sorely tempted to. "Look around everyone, there are flying Flummers above you. Scrawlers passing by you in two straight rows. And look at all the Bealles on the tables."
"What are Flummers?" asked Max.
"Flummers are green and white kite shaped objects. They are not harmful. The Scrawlers are robotic quags. They are in constant motion. They never wear down. The Bealles are V lamps. You cannot turn off a V lamp. They glow five years as yellow, five years as blue, and then back to yellow again. Over there is a map of Abstract Void. You will see that it goes on for several miles. You are just getting a brief taste of this void."
"Where are we going next?" asked Emily.
"Ah, you are about to go into the Abstract Amusement Park. This is the highlight of your visit. Also understand that there are some dangers that you might encounter there. It's about a half hour walk from here. Let's move on."
Thus ends Part One of the Abstract Void. Tomorrow, the children shall enter the Abstract Amusement Park. Will everyone survive? You'll find out in the next chapter of "The Last Bus Ride."
