Most of the time I'm counting down my favorite songs. Here's a completely different series: my favorite TV characters! This is going to be heavily skewered because I really don't watch that much TV, and I never have. I hope you enjoy it!
#10: Sheriff Andy Taylor
What is it about The Andy Griffith Show? There are people who can quote all 249 episodes verbatim. Trekkies have nothing on people who are devoted to this show.
But there's a reason: the simple charm of small-town life where the town drunk usually checks himself in and out of his cell struck a chord with people, especially those who felt the world was moving a bit too fast in the 60s. (Wonder how they feel now?)
Leading the way was Sheriff Andy Taylor. He was gentle and mild-mannered, as laid back as his town. Sometimes possessing the wisdom of Solomon when dealing with his son Opie, his deputy Barney Fife, or problems caused by out-of-towners who thought he was just a country bumpkin, Sheriff Taylor was the poster child for keeping things simple.
There's a part of all of us that wants to go to Mayberry.

@coffeebreakwhatever I should see if I can dig that one up somewhere. I liked him in A Face in the Crowd, which was his first film role, I believe. He's plays an ex-con, sometimes con artist, turned national folk hero in this rather gritty drama that costars Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau.

I was actually thinking about doing something like this sometime. There was no one like Andy, the wisest man in town. The humor came not from jokes, but the characters themselves.

I hope you do run a series of your favorite characters. The more the merrier, I always say.
