I know there are a lot of people here on mylot who, like me have lived the bulk of the years they feel they have been allotted. I have been reflecting lately on my past and I have to admit I am not satisfied with my accomplishments. As a child my Father planned a musical career for me. He sent me to a school to learn the guitar but I'm afraid I didn't become very good at it. I did have an excellent voice that required very little training and I am grateful for that talent. But I mostly used it to entertain myself and later my children. Although I did sing in a band for a while that mostly just fizzled out. I am a very quick learner so I have knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. I went to college, several times, but never managed to complete any course of study because life got in the way. Now, here I am in the twilight of my years trying to make sense of my life. I am not having much success there either. I am really aggravated with myself because I know something about most everything but not enough to make a mark for myself in anything. I would like to know what you feel your accomplishments are and if you are satisfied with how your life has turned out so far.

My accomplishments is making good money from Upwork this past summer. (I'll do a post on that soon.) I did write a new novel this spring and hope to finish edits in 3 weeks before I can query it next month. I had some ups and downs in my life (loss of mother 2.5 years ago, loss of cat, a month ago.)

I am sorry for your losses. I lost my husband and soul mate in 2004 and I still haven't gotten over it. This may be one reason I feel so down sometimes. I have also lost cats who were very dear to me in the past so I can identify with your feelings. I am jealous of your writing accomplishments. I always wanted to be a writer but never could get a good start going. I did do a few good short stories when I was in school but nothing published.

Well, if you are still young you have time for some bigger accomplishments. But small accomplishments are to be savored as well.

I wish I was. Maybe I can still do something that will make me proud of myself.

You know..just because you can't see it now doesn't mean you haven't accomplished much....you say life got in the way...which probably means that you gave priority to your family and their needs. I am sure if you looked at yourself from their eyes, you would see a very different picture of your achievements. . My achievements in life are still underway...

You may be right. It is easier to focus on the negative than the positive. I do have my moments though. Today may be a better day.

I have worked at the same job for 30 years which is a great accomplishment. I raised two wonderful children who are now very independent, kind, successful young adults. I work hard every day for every thing that I have.

I applaud your accomplishments. Raising children that become successful and independant is itself a great thing. I wish I had had the foresight to stay with a job for 30 years. You should be proud of yourself.

@savak03 Thank you very much! Overall it is not a bad job. They feel like my family now. The years have passed fast when I first started then I never would have imagined that I would still be there 30 years later.

It's been said that we live on this earth for a reason. Regardless if it's true or not, the most important thing is we exist and we should be thankful to have experienced life even just for a bit. To me, this life on earth is but a phase and the real journey starts after.

I would like to get more pleasure out of the journey though. I realize this may be unrealistic these days.

If your life is going smoothly that in itself is an accomplishment. Be proud.
