Now Facebook has more than just likes. It has loves.

I just realized Facebook has these emoticons for likes.
They either tell the other person you like their post, love their post, are angry at their post or are Wowed by it.
This is kind of silly. Don't you think words are the best way to show your feelings about a post?
If we all just used emoticons we would never be able to go into real detail about our feelings in regard to things posted on our pages. This is why I am basically not in great favor of this latest form of emotional streamlining.
One thing just crossed my mind, The idea that a Heart, that represents LOVE in a response to a post could be misinterpreted as not so much as Love your post but Love you. This might cause some misunderstandings in many cases.

And this may make emoticons a less sincere approach to human interactions online.

@lookatdesktop Of course it is not. We couldn't use Facebook in China.

@MattMeng And why is that exactly? Can you elaborate a bit? And by the way, I have a lot of respect for China. I do not think of China as a threat to America in any way. In fact America has been doing business with China since long before I was born. That said, being able to communicate on basics is what keeps countries from becoming enemies but inst4ead fosters a kind of international respectfulness and brotherhood.

True, but Facebook is not the only place on the planet for human conversations.

I have yet to use those. "Like" is good enough for me.

It could but it merely was adopted to express laughter or lightheartedness.

Sometimes I don't know what to say to a post so I just put as emoticon of some sort so they know that I have seen it where it be a like or a love or a sad face. I don't use them a whole lot but they are there is I need them. Most of the time I just type out what is on my mind.

If people start using quick responses they may also skip down the posts and not read them completely so then their responses will have little or no relevancy.

though i understand what you mean...people will not think of expressing themselves with words as much....and being able to express oneself in words will get harder for people.
