Stephen J Nesbitt reports the news on Tuesday the Pittsburgh Pirates who are not likely to make a playoff appearance this year have placed their ace right handed starting pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 60 day disabled list with discomfort on his right elbow.
Cole pitched two innings on Monday giving up five earned runs in the Pirates 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
Cole will not be able to pitch in anymore baseball games for the Pirates for the remainder of the 2016 Major League Baseball season.
The Pirates are hoping that Cole will be able to return to pitch for their team in the 2017 Major League Baseball fully healthy since he is their ace starting pitcher.
On Tuesday the Pirates acquired via the trade route from the Seattle Mariners left handed relief pitcher Wade LeBlanc for a player to be named later or cash considerations to replace Cole on their 40 man active roster.
