A young couple I know who love to travel are going to South Padre Island, off the Gulf Coast of Texas. They just got back from a trip to Iceland. They like to choose unusual places to visit, it seems, instead of the more popular places, that most tourists seek out.
I do remember that Padre Island was hit by Hurricane Beulah in the 60s and there was extensive damage to the area. Since then, there have been other hurricanes that have made land fall on the island.
South Padre Island is a barrier island that is accessible via Queen Isabella Causeway from the town of Port Isabel in Texas. I did a little research on it.
The island stretches for about 100 miles along the Texas coast. Laguna Madre, a long shallow lagoon, separates it from the mainland.
From what this young couple said, there are many resort hotels on the island now and it’s getting to be a very popular place to visit.
I’ve never been there, but I was happy to learn a little more about it.

It's the same for me. I am not able to travel much anymore. I've been to a lot of different places but there is so much more that I haven't seen and never will, I suppose.
