I don't know whether it's a new thing, probably just that we're able to see more examples of intolerant people in these days of social media. There are still many people who listen to other people's point of view and who keep their minds open. Sadly there are always going to be some narrow-minded people who refuse to bend even a little.

Yes, you are right. If only those people looked from other people's point of view, the world would be a much better place! *sigh*

i think people are getting more stressed and therefore becomes more intolerant and short-tempered...

Yes, that might be one of the reason. People are so wired that they snap at the smallest provocation.

This would depend, to a great extent, on what you consider them to be 'intolerant' of.
Some people joke about things that should not be a joking matter. Should I tolerate their ignorance?
Also, the great Interwebs has opened up people to even more people that they may have never run into otherwise, and many of these people never were tolerant of many things to begin with...so it isn't of necessity people being 'more' intolerant as it is you running into more people.
