Golly

I understand a golly has to be called just a golly and not what it used to be called as the full term has become a racist insult, but is it still OK to say the word 'golly' or is that insulting or racist too? I'm only asking because I don't want to upset anyone, and I'd like to know how to refer to the completely black floppy (usually knitted) dolls that I at present call gollies. Thank you.

Well it's a Gollywog, it's always been called a Gollywog and if people don't like it, they can lump it, it's probably middle-class white people that don't like the word anyway :)

Last I heard golly was discriminatory. I suppose you just have to call them rag or knitted dolls.
