Why people are so fond of extraterrestrial shows?

In the past Iv'e watch the series of Ancient Aliens and for a time I was hooked by it because of the so called mystery of the old structures. Not to mention the way he speaks of it and his hair. He and his ancient alien buddies tries to give another theory on how the old cities were made or how the civilization in the ancient times were created and lived. But recently I've watch some debunked videos about the show and started to loose interest a little bit. But then he went to my country and his interview in our local media proved they were more people got hooked in this series than I am. He said it was just meant for a few hours of documentary, but it grew some how and he started having his own show too. Some can be just off, but I told myself, it's just for the sake of entertainment. I think people wants to be entertained while having an open mind. In my point of view, the aliens will never show themselves to us since were too primitive to understand other lifeforms or civilizations on other planets. We can't even get along that well.
