The Trees Speak The trees speak kindly to the squirrels, "It is time. It is time to bring the acorns in, to gather all the acorns now, for soon enough, my little friends, we will drop our acorns to the ground. It is time." "And then the leaves will go from green to brown and red and golden yellow, and leaves will fall to make colorful quilts atop my fallen acorns. And you will play and dance and make the bright leaves sing, sing a leafy tune played by your little feet running, and jumping, and dancing." Thus say the trees as summer goes where summers always go. To the autumn rains and winter winds the summer goes when acorns fall and leaves make brown and red and golden yellow quilts for fallen acorns and for little squirrels that listen to the words they hear. And as the trees speak kindly to the squirrels they whisper to those who watch, who watch the scene as acorns fall and watch the leaves that go from green to brown and red and golden yellow. "For you who watch the acorns falling, watch the leaves and watch the squirrels, the autumn rains and winter winds will follow, but you need not fear. The summer sun returns, again, again." * * * * * * * * * * Image source: Pixabay dot com * * * * * * * * * *

That was good. I almost had a warm feeling for squirrels, although we are so overrun here by them that I have often said that I hate them. Still.... Good poem

@Ceerios I had one in the attic, too and it took forever, a professional trapper and a couple of creative relatives to get rid of her and her babies. I finally gave up and bought a squirrel proof bird feeder, but it irritates me to have to because now the bigger birds like jays can't get to the seed, either.

@peavey - Friend peavey - Bats in the belfry or squirrels in the attic - hard to tell which is worse. -Gus-

@peavey - Friend peavey - Yes. Those squirrel critters can be a regulation pain in the rear, like when they decided to take residence in our attic one time. Made holes everywhere up there. Also, those rascals enjoy the bird feeder more so than do the birds... Glad you enjoyed the little poem. -Gus-

I could almost see the squirrels scampering around in the leaves as I read your poem. Good job.

@clrumfelt - Friend "CL" - As I wrote this little piece, I, also, could see those squirrels scampering around through the fallen leaves. It was most gratifying that you saw them, too. -Gus-

@marlina - What the eyes cannot always see, the intelligent mind can visualize. It is great, good fun to be able to see things that might only be pictures painted with the alphabet. You are another lucky person to be able to do that. -Gus-

@toniganzon - Ms Toni - That is not unusual, for there is no tree in the photo, nor did I write a photo. The photo came from Pixabay and is one of their offerings to us in the public domain. If you had seen a tree in that photo I would have to believe that you were hallucinating. -Gus-

@Ceerios What a thoughtful gesture to do. I am sure that most of them are remembered and in a good way.

@marlina - It is a sad page (or more than one page sometimes) to read about the many departed buddies and even those comrades you did not ever personally know. I joined the veterans association back in 1998. Back then we might lose several members during the year. But now they are dropping in large numbers. After a while we will all be gone. Kinda like the vets who came back home in 1945 - all gone now as nearly as I know. Life is too short for us good looking folks who have so much unfinished business to do. That's what is so nice about the Internet and websites such as the Mill Otter website (this one) - We can leave at least one day's worth of ourselves on earth after we take off for other places. -Gus-
